Death, map, and compass. Genesis 2:10-14 commented and questions
Today it is commonly accepted that the Garden of Eden is somewhere in the Iraq area. By the verse 10, it seems like the Eden is the place where the river started, a place higher up than the rest of the garden. The river started from Eden and divided into four rivers. Today it is not easy to find rivers like that, but the land might have changed in 6000 years.
Sometimes if you are in a forest or on a mountain and trying to find your way, using a map and compass it looks to you like the river over there or the top to the left should not be there. The map could be wrong, but nature is never wrong, like the word of God, which is always right.
In verse 12, we find gold, bdellium, and onyx stone, it is about gold and gemstones, the land is rich like the earth. The earth is full of treasures, good and profitable for people. There is nothing wrong with the earth and what God created; the wrong is in our thinking and in our heart. As God told Adam if you eat of that fruit you will die. Adam ate and he kept on living for hundreds of years.
In the backpack?
God is not referring to the physical, to your body; He is referring to how your spirit is influencing your soul, the way you think and feel. Adam disobeyed God and died spiritually, in his spirit Adam lost his map and compass. Day by day, he and the rest of the humans went astray and further away from God. Luckily, for us, there are exceptions like Enoch and Noah. Enoch and Noah were the map and compass for the people around them, they preached to them every day. However, if the map and compass are in the backpack, they are of no use to you.
