Jacob’s prophesy over Joseph. From Genesis 49:22-26 commented by ASV and questions

The prophesy from AMP

Joseph is a fruitful bough (a main branch of the vine),
A fruitful bough by a spring (a well, a fountain);
Its branches run over the wall [influencing others].

The [skilled] archers have bitterly attacked and provoked him;
They have shot [at him] and harassed him.

 But his bow remained firm and steady [in the Strength that does not fail],
For his arms were made strong and agile
By the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob,
(By the name of the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),

By the God of your father who will help you,
And by the [
g]Almighty who blesses you
With blessings of the heavens above,
Blessings lying in the deep that couches beneath,
Blessings of the [nursing] breasts and of the [fertile] womb.

The blessings of your father
Are greater than the blessings of my ancestors [Abraham and Isaac]
Up to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills;
They shall be on the head of Joseph,
Even on the crown of the head of him who was the distinguished one and the one who is prince among (separate from) his brothers.

The eleventh son of jacob

Joseph, the eleventh son of Jacob who prophesied him being a fruitful bough. This bough is the main branch of the vine, Joseph was the fruitful vine and looked after by the shepherd and the rock of Israel. His blessings came from heaven above and reached up to the everlasting mountains and down to the deep.

The blessings

Who is this shepherd, who is this rock and who is this fruitful vine and how does these blessings from heaven above and down to the deep work?

The vine talks

In John 15:1-5, the vine is talking, “I am the true Vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that continues to bear fruit, He prunes, so that it will bear more fruit You are already clean because of the word which I have given you. Remain in Me, and I in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself without remaining in the vine, neither can you unless you remain in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

The shepherd talks

In John 10:11, the shepherd is talking, “I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. But the hired man, who is neither the shepherd nor the owner of the sheep, when he sees the wolf coming, deserts the flock and runs away; and the wolf snatches the sheep and scatters them. The man runs because he is a hired hand and is not concerned about the sheep. I am the Good Shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me.”

Your Rock

In Psalm 18:2 the rock is revealed, “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and the One who rescues me; My God, my rock and strength in whom I trust and take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower—my stronghold.

Call, He is higher than you

In Psalm 61:2 God is asked to lead us to the Rock that is higher than “I”, “From the end of the earth I call to You, when my heart is overwhelmed and weak; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I

Three ways

In his father’s prophesy Joseph is blessed in three ways, first with blessings of the heavens above, second by the Blessings lying in the deep that couches beneath, and third Blessings of the breasts and of the womb.

Healthy children

These blessings secure Joseph and his tribe rain from above in the right measure and at the right time, rain will give life if it comes when needed, however rain could also destroy if it is timed wrongly. Secondly from the deep couches beneath, this is also water supply and soil nutrition for plants to grow. And thirdly of the breast and of the womb is many healthy children given from God to Joseph and his tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim.

Adopted

Joseph was the pen ultimo child of Jacob, however by his trust and belief in God he rose to prominence and became the first born, the prince among his brothers entitled to the double portion, given to him by his two sons being adopted by Jacob his father.

Shepherd and vine

Joseph became the prime minister of the greatest nation on earth, and for his family he became the good shepherd, he also by his leadership governed by God became the fruitful vine and provided not only for his family, but also for Egypt and the surrounding countries.

Our great king

Joseph was solid as a rock, steady towards all the temptations, slander and lies shot at him as fiery arrows. Being the leading shepherd, the fruitful vine and the solid rock, Joseph points the way to our great King Jesus, our good shepherd and everlasting Rock, thank God for Joseph.
